Brand: Borgogno
Category: Alcoholic Beverages
We do not know what inspired Borgogno's marketing manager to come up with such an unusual name. "No Name", in fact, is the commercial name that appears on the iconic label of this Langhe Nebbiolo DOC. A clean, white label in the style of the historic Piedmontese winery, with the name (or rather the NO NAME) written in big letters right in the middle. And a small "protest label" written in the bottom corner. Protest or not, this Nebbiolo DOC from Borgogno is certainly not a wine of little interest. Harvested by hand, spontaneously fermented in cement tanks, lightly pressed and matured for three years in large oak barrels. Nothing is left to chance. In fact, there are no protests about quality! Or rather, it is not discussed. Ruby red colour with violet reflections. The nose is persistent, ethereal, with hints of flowers such as roses and violets and fresh fruit. Then spices. In the mouth it is dry, harmonious, velvety, full-bodied, austere and generous. As always in these cases, the perfect pairing calls for the great classics of Piedmontese cuisine, such as game and braised meats. After all, this is a wine with a great structure. Without protest!

Veuve Clicquot Champagne "cuvée Saint Pétersbourg" - Country: Italy - Capacity: 0.75

Shipping: 6.9 GBP
Brand: Veuve Clicquot
Category: Alcoholic Beverages
The name Cuvée Saint-Petersbourg evokes a famous episode in the life of Madame Clicquot, who in 1814, despite the blockade that immobilized trade in Europe, managed to export bottles of Champagne to Russia, making them arrive safe and sound at the court of St. Petersburg. It was a memorable success and this event consecrated the fortune of the maison within the rich Russian nobility. Veuve Clicquot's Brut Saint-Petersbourg comes from the same blend as the ever-pleasing Yellow Label, the company's most iconic Champagne. Pinot Noir in the majority, with a judicious addition of Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. The result is a Champagne of beautiful complexity that rests on the lees for about 48 months before disgorgement and put on the market. Notes of vanilla, pastry and bread crust well marked on the nose, great finesse and balance in the mouth.

The Sisini estate of Argiolas covers about 60 hectares in the hills of the municipality of the same name. We are in the south of the region, not far from the headquarters of the winery. Here the vineyards enjoy excellent exposure and grow healthy and strong at an altitude of between 250 and 300 metres above sea level. This mild soil and climate is ideal for the production of quality grapes, from which Argiolas produces important whites and reds. Perdera, Monica di Sardegna DOC, has an intense ruby red colour. On the nose, the winey and intense scents are evident. In the mouth it is round, with a finish that tends almost to sweetness, very typical for the Monica vine. To be served with dishes characterised by an intense flavour, this Perdera can also accompany tasty fish soups or, for those who love really intense flavours, even with the classic lamb stew.

The name Buttafuoco seems to derive from the dialect "al buta me al fogh" which means "it warms like fire". After all, this is a wine with a nice character and an important body. The one proposed here by Losito & Guarini comes from Croatina, Barbera and Uva Rara grapes, harvested manually in boxes to be delivered to the winery without stress. Vinification is simple but accurate and involves an initial phase of crushing and destemming of the grapes, followed by a pre-fermentative maceration to extract colours and aromas. This is followed by fermentation and refinement in stainless steel tanks. Deep ruby red with light garnet hues, this wine has intense aromas reminiscent of wild berries, blackberry, raspberry and currants. All made more interesting and complex thanks to a spicy and coffee note. The taste is decidedly dry and robust, with clear hints of cloves and black pepper.

Brand: Podere Conca
EAN:
8052462591109Category: Alcoholic Beverages
Let's start with the name. Agapanthus is derived from Agapanthus, a flower of the Liliaceae family native to South Africa. Its origin is Greek and derives from 'agape', meaning love, and 'anthos', flower. Specifically, Podere Conca's Agapanthus is a Bolgheri DOC, which is the result of processing Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Ciliegiolo. The grapes, having reached perfect ripeness, are harvested by hand, destemmed, crushed and fermented with the skins in steel tanks for about 20 days. After processing, the wine then matures for about 12 months in wooden barrels, in particular tonneaux and second-passage French oak barriques. In the glass it has a beautiful, intense and lively red colour. The nose expresses prevalent notes of red fruits. In the mouth, however, it reveals a beautiful harmony and persistence despite being young and exuberant. A wine of great pleasantness and character, this Tuscan red goes well with cured meats, cheeses and not too savoury red meats. Its softness and good natural balance, however, make it suitable for the whole meal.

The name says it all. Testa Balorda, the Grignolino proposed here by Cantina Aresca, is reminiscent of the expressions used by grandmothers who gently call their grandchildren, busy doing who knows what mischief (just to stay on the subject of old-fashioned words). And who knows. Maybe even our heads will be a little "groggy" after drinking a bottle of this pleasant wine. Because this is what Grignolino is like, a noble native Piedmontese grape that produces wines of extreme finesse, elegance and lightness. Wines that can easily deceive, inviting us to drink one glass too many. Fresh and light, in the glass it has an incredible soft pink colour. To the nose the scents are very fine and directly recall those of rose and sweet spices. The same pleasant sensations are then found in the mouth, where it also reveals a great balance between all its components.

Fontanafredda "marne Brune" Nebbiolo D'alba Doc 2021 - Country: Italy - Capacity: 0.75
Svinando.co.uk
Brand: Fontanafredda
Category: Alcoholic Beverages
The name Marne Brune refers to the unique soil in which the Nebbiolo plants used for its production have their roots. Nebbiolo d'Alba DOC, Marne Brune comes from a careful processing of the best grapes harvested between Vezza d'Alba, Montaldo and Monteu Roero. After vinification, the wine matures for about a year in Allier oak barriques and then in the bottle for a period of 6-7 months. This is sufficient time to soften the typical sharpness of the Piedmontese vine, without excessively altering the initial fruit. What best characterises this wine, in fact, is its fragrance, which is easily observable from its colour, a more or less intense ruby red depending on the vintage, and which can also be detected thanks to the primary scents that distinguish it. It is easy to recognise, for example, the more delicate notes of flowers and small fruits of the undergrowth. In the mouth, on the other hand, one discovers a wine characterised by a fine personality, with a dry flavour. A fabulous everyday wine, it is ideal in combination with main courses of a certain importance, preferably meat-based. For an afternoon snack, on the other hand, it can also be served with a simple board of cold meats and medium-aged cheeses.

Category: Alcoholic Beverages
Born on the slopes of Mount Vulture, in Basilicata, it is a small oenological treasure that tells a thousand-year-old story. We are talking about Forentum, Aglianico del Vulture Superiore DOCG. Its name refers to ancient Lavello, a vital centre in Roman times, as testified by the works of Horace and Pliny. 100% Aglianico del Vulture, these ancient indigenous grapes find their ideal habitat in the mineral-rich volcanic soils. The vineyards, with good exposure, are located at an altitude of about 450 metres above sea level. Harvesting takes place between the end of October and the beginning of November. The grapes are hand-picked and carefully selected to ensure maximum quality. After crushing and destemming, the grapes ferment on the skins for about 18 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This is followed by ageing for about 12 months in small wooden vats, which gives the wine complexity and spicy notes. Bottling and further ageing in the bottle complete the production process. To the eye Forentum shows an intense garnet red colour, enriched with violet reflections. On the nose, the bouquet is complex and enveloping, with spicy notes of vanilla, liquorice and sweet tobacco, in perfect harmony with notes of berry jam. In the mouth, the tannins, although present, are soft and velvety. The structure is solid, but the well-integrated acidity gives freshness and liveliness. Forentum is a versatile wine that lends itself to numerous pairings. It is perfect with full-bodied first courses, meat sauces, roast red meats and mature cheeses. Lamb, in particular, is an ideal.

Valtellina Superiore DOCG, this interesting wine produced by Triacca is the son of the Lombardy winery. The Grumello sub-zone, between the municipalities of Sondrio and Montagna, has a vineyard extension of about 78 hectares. Its name derives from Grumello Castle, a 13th century fortress that dominates the valley. Among the Valtellina wines, Grumello is generally easier to drink and also lends itself to being drunk younger than Nebbiolo (Chiavennasca) from other areas. However, this does not detract from the fact that it is a wine with good ageing potential. In the glass it has a beautiful ruby red colour of medium intensity tending towards garnet. The bouquet is subtle and intense, with nuances reminiscent of almonds. In the mouth, it is dry and velvety. Rich in fragrances, slightly tannic, savoury and harmonious. It ideally accompanies roasts and young cheeses.

This Pinot Noir belongs to Tiefenbrunner's Turmhof line. A red wine that originates in the hills of South Tyrol and whose name, 'Turmhof', refers to an ancient castle that dominates the Tiefenbrunner estate. The grapes used to produce this Pinot Noir come from selected vineyards. Optimally exposed plots that extend over several slopes, reaching heights of up to 900 metres. The soil here is characterised by a great variety of elements: it ranges from clay soils of moraine sediments to gravelly and sandy soils. This diversity contributes to a complex and multifaceted wine. Here, Pinot Noir expresses its finesse and great elegance at its best. The vinification of Turmhof Pinot Noir takes place in cement barrels, where the grapes ferment on the skins for an extended period. Subsequently, the wine matures in wood, both in barrels and large casks, to acquire complexity and harmony. If to the eye this Pinot Noir shows an intense ruby red colour with garnet hues, the nose reveals a pleasant, fruity aroma with notes of blackberries, raspberries and cherries. In the mouth it is soft, balanced and persistent, with fine tannins and a pleasantly long finish. Perfect with white meats such as chicken and turkey, it also goes well with rabbit and pork. Try it with semi-matured cheeses and tasty first courses.

Coste a Preola is a name chosen to pay homage to Sicily and its biodiversity. In fact, this is the name given to the vineyards on the western edge of the island, close to the Mediterranean Sea, in an area bordering the WWF Nature Reserve Lago Preola e Gorghi Tondi. DOC Sicilia, this white wine is certified organic. From the vineyards, which are a few metres above sea level, 100% Grillo grapes. After harvesting, the grapes are soon brought to the winery to begin the delicate transformation phase. The must ferments in steel tanks, at a controlled temperature, and the resulting wine matures, again in steel, in contact with its fine lees, for about 5 months before bottling. In the glass it has a beautiful bright yellow colour with greenish reflections. The nose is elegant, intense, with marked and complex varietal notes. In particular, notes of passion fruit, mint, pineapple and white peach are recognisable. In the mouth, however, it reveals excellent balance. Full, rich and fragrant, it reveals a fresh acidity and good persistence. The name Vittorio Moretti on the label of this bottle is an important signal. When the founder of a great winery puts his seal on a bottle, we can be sure that it is the highest expression of his land. The Vittorio Moretti Reserve is in fact a great cuvee, with the ambition to express a memory of the Franciacorta land and its perpetual renewal. A point of connection between memory and vision, past and future. Only the best selections are allowed to join this exclusive assemblage. Only the best fruit, from the oldest plants. Those that sink their roots for tens of metres into the ground of Franciacorta and are able to produce grapes of rare concentration. The base wines are fermented in small white oak barrels, before being assembled and sent for long maturation in the bottle, sealed on this occasion with the classic cork, in the style of the great Champagnes of the most prestigious maison. The colour of the wine is deep bright yellow, with a rich and creamy foam supported by a persistent perlage. On the nose, the bouquet is ample and capable of continuous transformation. From ripe yellow fruit to wildflower honey, from pastries to candied citrus fruits, up to crossing hints of smoke and laurel. All these sensations are found in the mouth, where, however, you also discover a highly concentrated, almost dense and creamy wine. Plus is its name. Venezia Giulia IGT is the denomination. Bastianich is the producer. About this wine we read: "it is a pure Friulano, deep and complex, more unique than rare, dedicated to all those who want to treat themselves to an experience that is different from the norm". Plus is a white wine that does not fear the passage of time. A wine that is already good today, of course, but above all a bottle to be forgotten in the cellar. For years, in fact, it will be able to evolve and give us ever-changing satisfaction. It is made from grapes harvested in the company's vineyards in Buttrio and Premariacco, in the province of Udine. Wonderful plants with an average age of about 70 years. Part of the grapes, carefully selected, are dried after harvesting. Then we proceed with the fermentation, in steel, and with the malolactic fermentation which is carried out on about 60% of the total mass of the wine. This is followed by a period of maturation in steel for 16 months, at least 8 of which are spent in contact with its own yeasts. Golden yellow with green reflections, the nose reveals a ripe and powerful white, with scents of mandarin, orange, melon and pear. In the mouth it is rich and dense, with a very long aftertaste of fruit, silky and ripe. It accompanies important dishes such as foie gras. But it does not disdain a more traditional pairing with shellfish, soft cheeses or spicy Asian dishes.

Marcello is the name of the company's founder. And Marcello is also its most representative wine. In this case it is a special Lambrusco Spumante Dry Gran Cru, made from 100% Lambrusco of the Maestri variety. Its particular name seems to derive from 'Villa Maestri' in the municipality of San Pancrazio, Parma. This Lambrusco is particularly intense, so much so that, in the past, it was often used to cut wines less endowed with character, tannins and acidity. Processed as carefully as in this case, however, it can produce wines of great value. Elaborated with the classic Charmat method, therefore in autoclave, this Marcello is a Lambrusco of superior quality, awarded by Italian and foreign wine critics. Very intense ruby red with violet reflections, as soon as it is poured it is covered with a soft, evanescent froth. The nose is fragrant and fruity, with hints of morello cherry, wild berries and notes of rose. In the mouth it is enveloping and pleasantly fruity. As soon as they are harvested, the grapes are sent to the winery where they are processed in the shortest time possible to preserve the best and finest aromas. Cantina Belcolle's Nebbiolo d'Alba DOC is an authentic expression of the Nebbiolo grape variety, cultivated in the best hills of the Roero, on the left bank of the Tanaro river. A red wine with great personality that stands out for its elegance and complexity. The origins of the name Nebbiolo, it seems, are linked to the word 'nebbia' (fog). A link that refers to the ideal location of the vineyards, situated above the fog line, where the grapes can benefit from a perfect microclimate for their ripening. The sandy soils of the Roero's 'bricchi', combined with the favourable exposure and temperate microclimate, give Belcolle's Nebbiolo d'Alba DOC excellent organoleptic qualities. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by 12 months of ageing in oak barrels, which gives the wine structure and complexity. A further refinement of 6 months in the bottle completes the maturation process and makes the wine ready to be tasted. On the nose, Nebbiolo d'Alba DOC Belcolle presents a broad and intense bouquet, characterised by floral notes of violets and roses, hints of ripe fruit such as cherries and plums, and delicate spices. With ageing, aromas of dried fruit, cocoa and liquorice develop. In the mouth it is soft and velvety, with elegant, well-integrated tannins. The structure is balanced and the aromatic persistence is long, with a mineral and lingering finish. It ideally accompanies first courses with meat sauces, main courses of red and white meat, medium and long matured cheeses.

Tradition has it that the wine made from this grape should be drunk with a dish of snails, which in the area are called 'lumasse'. Traditions aside, the one proposed here by Durin is a pleasantly dry white wine, characterised by a pale straw-yellow colour with greenish highlights. Maxima is the Riserva, produced only in the best vintages, from Colombo. The name, of Latin derivation, refers to antiquity, when the Roman Empire's interest in the finesse of grapes from Bubbio was already noted. It also represents the highest expression of quality. A very structured wine, this Pinot Noir undergoes a long ageing process and conceals a balanced minerality and a delicate final freshness. Cold maceration on the skins for 4-5 days, alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by malolactic fermentation, which is completely carried out in wood. At the end of transformation, the wine matures for about 18 months in tonneaux and large barrels and, after bottling, continues with bottle ageing for a minimum of 15 months. Intense ruby red in colour, the nose reveals a very elegant, complex and intense bouquet, with immediate and clearly perceptible currant notes. Then black cherry, typical notes of fresh red fruits and a floral note reminiscent of violets. In the mouth, it unleashes all its elegance. Its name describes the soul of the Colombo winery and recalls the desire to embark on a new project, a new path for viticulture in the area. A wine defined as "feminine", warm and harmonious, it comes from a pure processing of Pinot Noir grapes from hillside vineyards located between 250 and 400 metres above sea level. Once in the cellar, the grapes undergo alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel, followed by malolactic fermentation, in this case carried out in wood. Finally, the wine matures for 15 to 18 months in tonneaux and large barrels. Only then is it bottled to continue with refinement in glass for a minimum of 6 months. In the glass it has a beautiful bright ruby red colour, with slight garnet reflections that tend to appear with age. The nose is reminiscent of well ripe small red berries, such as cherry and sour cherry, followed by floral notes of dog rose. Then sweet spices of vanilla and liquorice of great intensity. Barolo, yes. But not just any Barolo. This one proposed by Ellena, in fact, bears on the label the name Barolo del Comune di La Morra. The centre, then, of that small world made up of prestigious wines that are born in a territory rich in facets. Each hillock, each ridge, has different soils and different exposures that allow the Nebbiolo grapes, the only one allowed by the regulations, to ripen in different ways and develop unique aromas and scents. Vigneto Ascheri, about one hectare, is made up of very old plants. The first plantings date back to 1970. With a south-west/west exposure, this vineyard enjoys a beneficial temperature range between day and night, thanks to its location at about 300 metres above sea level. After vinification, for the necessary maturation phase, Ellena chooses small oak barrels, French barriques, where the wine is left to rest for about 30 months. The result is a red wine with a beautiful personality, with fine and elegant tannins. Perfect with meat dishes, excellent with mixed boiled meats or the classic "tajarin all'uovo". Ruché is a grape variety with ancient origins. It is certainly one of Piedmont's most interesting and dynamic native grape varieties. Its name probably refers to an old farmhouse, called 'Rocca', where some monks vinified a sweet wine to give to the inhabitants of the nearby Poggio castle. Hence the origin of the term Ruchè. Cavaliere, Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato, was born out of Sant'Agata's need to vinify separately the grapes produced by the more recent vineyards that, with the passage of time, have become mature and resourceful vineyards. Today it is vinified using mainly grapes from a single vineyard to the south of the winery. 100% Ruchè grapes, Il Cavaliere is made exclusively in steel and displays great harmony and balance, thanks also to a fascinating aromatic vein. Warm and intriguing, on the nose one can clearly discern hints of violets and roses, hay and vanilla. Warm and characterised by a long aromatic persistence, it does not disdain a few years of ageing in the cellar. Even 10 years and more. Goes well with richly aromatic cuisine. Excellent with game dishes, such as venison, wild boar and hare.

A unique and precious wine born in the heart of the Tuscan hills. This is the Vin Santo del Chianti Classico DOC Occhio di Pernice, proposed here by Azienda Agricola Lanciola. A small amber-coloured oenological gem that encapsulates the history, tradition and passion of a beautiful land. Occhio di Pernice owes its name to its intense amber colour reminiscent of the pupil of a partridge. This wine, sweet and complex at the same time, is made from Sangiovese and Canaiolo grapes, rigorously selected and dried on straw mats for at least four months. This ancient process concentrates sugars and aromas, giving Vin Santo its characteristic richness and complexity. The dried grapes are then gently pressed and the must obtained ferments in oak barrels, where it then rests for at least seven years. During this long ageing, the wine develops its aromatic complexity and its characteristic balanced sweetness. Intense amber in colour with copper highlights, the nose is broad and complex. Notes of dried and candied fruit, apricot, orange peel, citrus fruit, walnut husk and sweet spices. In the mouth it is sweet, soft and opulent, with a crisp acidity that balances the sweetness and lends freshness. The finish is long and persistent, with hints of dried fruit, candied fruit and spices that invite you to take another sip. A meditation wine, it is perfect to end an important meal on a high note. It is ideally paired with desserts such as Tuscan cantucci, fruit tarts and chocolate desserts but is also an excellent companion for mature and blue cheeses.

Michele Chiarlo Langhe Nebbiolo Doc "il Principe" 2021 - Country: Italy - Capacity: 0.75
Svinando.co.uk
Brand: Michele Chiarlo
Category: Alcoholic Beverages
Il Principe by Michele Chiarlo is a Nebbiolo that perfectly represents the name it bears. Obviously it does not reach the power and importance of King Barolo but, when paired correctly at a dinner with friends, it will certainly have its say and will not make us regret the choice. It comes from young vines from both the Barbaresco and Roero areas. A careful but traditional vinification is followed by an ageing phase of at least 12 months, in steel, wood and bottle. The result is a wine characterized by an intense ruby red colour. On the nose notes of red fruits, violet and spices. In the mouth it is balanced, with good structure and freshness, with fine and elegant tannins. It closes with a precise and crisp finish.

The name Merus means 'pure' in Latin and fully reflects the philosophy behind this line of wines from Tiefenbrunner. Alto Adige DOC, Merus Sauvignon expresses the distinctive character of this fabulous aromatic grape variety with purity. The grapes come from the Bassa Atesina, an area in Alto Adige that is particularly suited for the cultivation of white wines. The terroir is characterised by limestone gravel of moraine origin, i.e. debris carried by glaciers, which lends a special minerality to the grapes. This composition of the soil, combined with the strong temperature variations between day and night, helps to develop intense aromas and enhance the freshness of the wine. 100% Sauvignon Blanc, to maintain the freshness and typicality of the fruit, the grapes are vinified in cement and steel tanks. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature for 10 days, after which the wine is matured on the lees for four months before bottling. This vinification process helps to preserve the aromas and give the wine a beautiful structure. To the eye, Merus has a brilliant yellow colour with green reflections that express freshness. The nose releases pleasant notes of nettle, elderflower, sage and mint, which recall the liveliness and typicality of Sauvignon Blanc. In the mouth, the wine is elegant and harmonious, with a lively and refreshing finish that invites you to take a second sip. This Sauvignon Blanc is perfect as an aperitif. On the table it also pairs beautifully with delicate, light dishes. Ideal with asparagus, grilled vegetables, fish, shellfish and fresh cheeses such as goat's cheese, enhancing the flavours with its liveliness.
