Let's start with the name. Agapanthus is derived from Agapanthus, a flower of the Liliaceae family native to South Africa. Its origin is Greek and derives from 'agape', meaning love, and 'anthos', flower. Specifically, Podere Conca's Agapanthus is a Bolgheri DOC, which is the result of processing Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Ciliegiolo. The grapes, having reached perfect ripeness, are harvested by hand, destemmed, crushed and fermented with the skins in steel tanks for about 20 days. After processing, the wine then matures for about 12 months in wooden barrels, in particular tonneaux and second-passage French oak barriques. In the glass it has a beautiful, intense and lively red colour. The nose expresses prevalent notes of red fruits. In the mouth, however, it reveals a beautiful harmony and persistence despite being young and exuberant. A wine of great pleasantness and character, this Tuscan red goes well with cured meats, cheeses and not too savoury red meats. Its softness and good natural balance, however, make it suitable for the whole meal.
