This Quercegobbe is certainly no exception, which in the glass has a very concentrated ruby red colour. The nose reveals a broad bouquet of great appeal, with notes of jammy blueberries, dried raspberries, black cherries in syrup, prunes, myrtle, rosemary, liquorice, cinnamon and pepper. In the mouth it is dense, rich, soft, with round, silky tannins and a calibrated freshness. The finish is persistent and consistent with the perfumes on the nose. This is due to the ageing of about 12 months in 20% new barriques. This passage in wood gives the wine greater complexity and structure, as well as smoothing out the tannins and making them softer. Then, after bottling, Petra matures in glass for a further 17 months (minimum). In the glass it has a beautiful, brilliant ruby red colour. These aromas are complemented by balsamic notes of Mediterranean scrub, pepper, incense and vanilla. In the mouth it is powerful and voluminous, with a rich and silky tannic texture. A wine certainly to be paired with meat dishes of great structure, such as roasts, braised meats and game. It also goes well with mature cheeses and first courses with meat sauces. Try it with tagliatelle with wild boar ragout or the most classic of Fiorentina steaks. Complexity, elegance and power, Toscana Rosso IGT Petra is good today but can also be kept for a few years in the cellar to allow it to evolve and acquire more complexity.

In jargon, one speaks of a Bordeaux blend to indicate those wines, produced all over the world, that are born from the happy marriage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. Both varieties from the French region of Bordeaux lend themselves, in the various countries, to the addition of some native vines to complete the blend and make it closer to the tastes of that particular market. Thus, in Tuscany, Cabernet and Merlot are often blended with Sangiovese in the production of wines that, by convention, are defined as Super Tuscan. Such is the case with this Hebo from Petra. The grapes, harvested by hand only when fully ripe, are skilfully processed with great attention to fermentation temperatures. The wine produced is left to mature in the cellar for a period of no less than one year in Slavonian oak casks and, to a small extent, in barriques. The result is a wine characterized by an intense ruby red colour. To the nose, red and black fruit dominate over everything, leaving room only for a slight spiciness due to the expert aging in wood. On the palate, however, it is well-structured. Justly tannic and pleasantly long finish.
