Category: Alcoholic Beverages

Between strength and harmony, the Barbaresco DOCG Argè by Piazzo Comm. Armando is a tribute to the history and tradition of the Piazzo family. A wine characterised by great personality, born from the skilful blend of Nebbiolo grapes from different vineyards in San Rocco Seno d'Elvio and Treiso. A label of great balance and complexity. The hills here are sun-kissed and characterised by limestone-clay soils. Ideal conditions for Nebbiolo to ripen, expressing its characteristics to the full. The grapes are destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation takes place in steel vats at a controlled temperature, with maceration on the skins for about 30 days. This is followed by ageing for at least 9 months in large oak casks and a period of rest in the bottle in the cellar. In the glass the Barbaresco DOCG Argè has a lively intense ruby colour with garnet reflections. The nose opens with a complex and enveloping bouquet, with fruity notes of red fruits, cherries in spirit and jam, floral hints of dried violets and sweet spices. In the mouth it is dry and warm, with well-integrated tannins and a long aromatic persistence. The finish is harmonious and particularly persistent. Ideal in combination with meat-based first courses, main courses with good structure and complexity. Try it with mushroom risotto.

Called 'Ritorno In', it is an Alta Langa DOCG, Brut and Millesimato, produced only in the best vintages. It is offered here by the Piazzo Comm. Armando winery and represents an exciting return to the family's origins. A sparkling wine born of a profound bond with the land and a passion for viticulture. A label of great elegance and complexity. The grapes used for this wine come from vineyards located in the Alta Langa, an area vocated for the production of high quality sparkling wines. In the blend, 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay complement each other perfectly, creating a unique balance of flavours and aromas. The grapes, harvested by hand and vinified separately, ferment in steel at a controlled temperature, with subsequent maturation of 7/8 months on the lees with frequent btonnage. Racking in the bottle, in accordance with the classic method, then involves ageing on the lees for at least 30 months. In the glass it has a lively straw-yellow colour with slight golden reflections. The nose opens with a complex and elegant bouquet, with hints of white-fleshed fruit, citrus fruits, white flowers, yeasts, bread crust and dried fruit. In the mouth, it is dry, full and persistent, with a pleasant acidic freshness and a mineral finish. A bubble of great versatility, it is ideal to accompany the entire meal, from hors d'oeuvres to white meat main courses. Also try it as an aperitif with a platter of sliced meats and fresh cheeses.

We are on the left bank of the Tanaro river, where the Arneis vine has been a constant presence for centuries. Here, on the ridges of Guarene, the Piazzo winery has a vineyard from which they obtain this white wine that is fascinating for its fragrance and particular organoleptic characteristics. Vinified at a controlled temperature in steel tanks, this wine matures for a few months between tanks and bottle before being put on sale. Straw yellow in colour with greenish reflections, it has intense, floral and mineral aromas, with light fruity notes of hazelnut, lemon, sage and apple. In the mouth it is delicate, with a perfect correspondence to what is perceived on the nose. Harmonious on the whole, this Arneis goes well with all fish dishes, but in general it goes well with all delicate dishes, from starters to first courses.

Those who love Barolo and Barbaresco are not satisfied with drinking a good red wine. Rather, they like to appreciate the different nuances that a unique territory such as the Langa can bring to the wines produced there. This is the case with this Barbaresco proposed by Piazzo Comm. Armando. Fratìn, in fact, is a special territory. A hill kissed by the sun and one of the most suitable areas for the cultivation of the noble Nebbiolo. Its curious name derives from an old community of monks who once lived in a convent on its summit. The grapes from this vineyard are vinified separately, to give life to a wine with intense, complex characters and great structure. Modernist in concept, this Barbaresco evolves for at least 9 months in barriques, followed by another period of refinement in bottles in the beautiful underground cellars. Deep and compact ruby red, it has reflections that hint at garnet hue. The nose is intense and complex. Fruity hints of jam, dried plums and raspberry can be perceived. But what is most surprising is the unmistakable note of violet typical of this vine, accompanied by more evolved scents of spices, among which cinnamon and green pepper stand out. In the mouth it is warm and dry, tannic and structured. A fabulous wine for ageing, it already goes well with main courses of game such as guinea fowl and wild boar, as well as with medium and mature cheeses.

Langhe DOC Chardonnay Stranghè proposed here by Piazzo Comm. Armando represents a bold foray into the Piedmontese wine tradition. It is no coincidence that 'Stranghè' comes from the Piedmontese dialect and means 'foreigner'. It is made from 100% Chardonnay, which, although not an indigenous grape variety, has found ideal soil in the Langhe. The result is a label of great personality and complexity. The grapes come from the Cicchetta vineyard, in the heart of the Langhe, where the special characteristics of the microclimate are ideal for creating a wine of great structure and refinement. Harvested by hand in the first ten days of September, when they reach perfect ripeness, the grapes undergo careful vinification, partly in French oak barriques of first, second and third passage, and partly in stainless steel. The wine then remains in contact with the fine lees for about 9 months, undergoing periodic btonnage, which lends complexity and structure. This is followed by ageing in stainless steel and a further period of rest in the bottle before release. In the glass, Stranghè has a reassuringly intense straw yellow colour with golden reflections. The nose opens with an elegant and complex bouquet, with hints of ripe yellow-fleshed fruit, exotic fruits, buttery and vanilla notes. The taste is full and enveloping. In the mouth it reveals a perfect balance between structure and finesse, while freshness and savouriness blend harmoniously with a long and persistent finish, enriched by slight hints of spice. Ideal with warm seafood hors d'oeuvres, first and second courses based on fish or white meat. Also to be tried with medium-aged cheeses.

If the whole world is crazy about our Moscato d'Asti, there must be a reason. After all, there is nothing more pleasant than a sip of this delicate, aromatic white wine. The wine proposed by Piazzo Comm. Armando comes from the hills of Mango. Vineyards with excellent mid-hill exposure. From the vinification of these grapes comes a delicate wine, with aromatic tones, but with fragrant characters. The harvest begins in the first ten days of September. After harvesting, the grapes are brought to the cellar early to be pressed and undergo fermentation at a low temperature in steel tanks until an alcohol content of just over 5 degrees is obtained. At that point fermentation is stopped by lowering the temperature and the wine is left to rest in the tank for about 2 months. The result is a nectar with a residual sugar content of about 110/120 grams per litre and a straw-yellow colour with golden hues, brought to life by a subtle vivacity that intensifies its fragrance. The nose is delicately fruity, with aromatic notes typical for the variety, including yellow peach, rose, honey, lime blossom and even sage. The palate is sweet, fresh and appealing. Well balanced by a natural acidity that invites you to continue tasting. Accompanies desserts, especially cakes and small pastries.

Careful producers, such as Piazzo Comm. Armando, are not satisfied with assessing the exposure or composition of the soil when planting a certain vineyard. Over the years, in fact, thanks to careful zoning and the separate vinification of the various plots, it has been possible to identify all the plots most suitable for the cultivation of a single vine. As in the case of this Mugiot vineyard, which has proved to have the best characteristics for the production of a particularly long-lived Barbera d'Alba. Mugiot, in Piedmontese, means "little pile", a nickname given to Armando Piazzo's grandfather who, as a wood merchant, used to make little piles of wood. And the wine made from it bears this name because, as with the small piles, Mugiot represents only a small portion of the total production of Barbera. Intense ruby red in colour, it is tinged with garnet shades over the years. Its bouquet combines fruity, spicy and ethereal notes, with hints of blackberry, jam, green pepper and vanilla with rose and toasted notes in the background. In the mouth it is warm and enveloping, with a pleasant softness and an excellent structure and persistence. Its elegant complexity makes it the right wine to accompany an entire meal.

The grapes used to make this Barolo DOCG come from a single vineyard called Sottocastello di Novello. Obviously it is a pure Nebbiolo, according to the regulations, which ripens late, even in the second ten days of October. After all, that's the way Nebbiolo is, it likes to be waited for and keeps the producers in suspense for a long time, looking up to the sky and hoping that the good weather will hold out just long enough not to ruin the entire production. After pressing the grapes, fermentation and maceration in stainless steel tanks, this Barolo DOCG evolves for at least 18 months in barriques, followed by a few months of refinement in the bottle in the underground cellars. A bold and compact ruby red, with garnet reflections that tend towards orange over time, the bouquet is intense and broad. There are fruity notes of jam, dried plums and cherries in alcohol alongside spicy sensations of cinnamon, vanilla and tar. In the mouth it is rich in structure, with a long aromatic persistence. Its tannin envelops the mouth and makes it the right wine to serve when main courses of red meat, such as braised meats and medium to mature cheeses, come to the table.
