It is made from Sangiovese grapes, with a small addition of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This Chianti Colli Senesi Riserva DOCG is the product of grapes harvested in the vineyards of Farnetella, in the municipality of Sinalunga, spread over a wide and well-exposed hillside at an altitude between 400 and 470 metres above sea level. At the end of vinification, between March and April following the harvest, part of the mass, about 50%, is transferred to medium-sized barrels and second and third passage barriques. This completes the maturation of the wine after about 12-16 months, followed by blending and bottling. At that point, before going on sale, the wine rests for at least another 6 months in the cellar. Intense ruby red in colour with light violet hues, the nose is dominated by aromas of ripe blackberry and blueberry, with clear floral notes of aniseed and Mediterranean scrub. On top of all this, there are hints of minerals and a pleasant toasting in the background. In the mouth it reveals an excellent drinkability, with soft tannins, good acidity and structure. The finish is long and enveloping, with notes of black cherry and light vanilla.

This Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG is made from Sangiovese grapes, for the most part, and Merlot, for a small part. Grape varieties selected from the farm plots in Farnetella, in the municipality of Sinalunga. We are south of Siena and north of Montepulciano. After all, here, in this fortunate corner of Tuscany, Sangiovese is capable of producing grapes of great concentration and richness. This is thanks to the unique soil, but also to a temperate climate and excellent exposure. In this case, the vineyards are located on a well-ventilated plateau, with heights between 220 and 560 metres above sea level. After racking, at the end of fermentation, the wine is put into small, medium and large capacity barrels. This maturation phase lasts for about 8-12 months, followed by at least another 3 months of bottle ageing. The result is a wine characterised by an intense ruby red colour with violet hues. The nose reveals fruity aromas of underbrush, notes of aniseed and sweet liquorice, typical of Sangiovese grown in this area. All this is well integrated with a light spiciness. In the mouth it is soft, with a good aftertaste of fruit and light vanilla.

The label reads Toscana IGT. But don't be misled. In fact Fontalloro is one of the most representative wines of the Fèlsina estate. 100% Sangiovese grapes from the vineyards in the upper part of the estate, in the Chianti Classico area, and partly from the Chianti Colli Senesi area, at altitudes between 330 and 400 metres above sea level. With a south-west exposure and different soils, partly rocky, partly calcareous and clayey or rich in sand, silt and marine sediments, Fontalloro has been produced continuously since 1983. Harvested by hand, at two different times, selecting only the best grapes, after crushing and destemming, fermentation begins at controlled temperature in steel tanks. Matured in new and first-passage French oak barriques, after about 18-22 months it is assembled and bottled. Then, before being put on sale, it rests in glass for at least another 8-12 months. Ruby red colour with good intensity, on the nose you can easily distinguish the typical notes of red and dark fruit, with accentuated sensations of tobacco and wet earth. In the mouth it reveals a good tannicity, with soft and pleasant tannins. Good consistency, structure and persistence. It is a wine born not to fear the passage of time. Excellent today, if well preserved, especially in the best vintages, it is able to mature slowly for many years.
