Citra's Ferzo line celebrates Abruzzo, a region with a long winegrowing tradition. Here, the climate, the soils and - above all - the passion of the winegrowers contribute to wines with great personality. Just like this Ferzo, Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo DOC, which beyond any doubt represents the most authentic expression of the Montepulciano grape variety. It comes from the hills of Ortona, in the province of Chieti, from a privileged territory where the meeting of sea and mountains creates precisely the ideal conditions for growing Montepulciano grapes. An indigenous grape variety of excellence in Abruzzo, Montepulciano is known and appreciated for its versatility and great aromatic intensity. This vine produces both structured reds and fresh, fruity rosés, such as this Cerasuolo. In the winery, after a soft pressing, the must remains in contact with the skins for a short period at low temperature (cryo-maceration), until the characteristic cherry colour is extracted, but without loading the wine with tannins. The clear must is then transferred to steel tanks where it ferments at a controlled temperature. In the glass, Ferzo Cerasuolo has a brilliant cherry red colour. On the nose, intense fruity notes of cherry, or 'cerase' as they say in those parts, and pomegranate stand out. A fresh and inviting perfume that anticipates the pleasantness of the sip. In the mouth, the wine is fresh and well balanced, with a lively acidity that enhances drinkability. The cherry notes also return on the palate, accompanied by a pleasant almond finish that adds complexity. Thanks to its freshness and versatility, this Cerasuolo is perfect with fish soups and seafood dishes, such as mullet and shellfish, as well as with tomato-based first courses. Also perfect with white meats, semi-matured cheeses and, hear hear, even with pizza.

Of the autochthonous vines, i.e. the typical vines, of central Italy, one in particular has reached truly remarkable levels of popularity in recent years. It is the Passerina that finds it perfect home in the Abruzzo region, and in particular in the areas that fall within the so-called Terre di Chieti. Just the right mix of sun, heat, proximity to the sea and soils. All the pieces of the puzzle that make up the ideal "terroir" for this vine all come together in these parts. Ideal in combination with fish dishes and as an aperitif, it is the bottle to uncork if you plan to make extensive use of raw fish. In particular this Passerina DOP Superiore Ferzo proposed by Codice Citra. A fresh and fragrant white wine, straw yellow in colour with golden highlights. In the mouth it enhances all the goodness previously perceived, thanks also to a remarkable persistence.

The Ferzo line represents a tribute to Abruzzo by one of its most illustrious institutions. The Citra winery, in fact, has carefully chosen the region's most vocated wine-growing territories, selecting the best vineyards everywhere to make the most of the many good typical grape varieties, including Pecorino, with its unique and intense aromatic profile. Thanks to its simultaneous proximity to the Adriatic Sea and the Apennines, Abruzzo enjoys ideal geographical characteristics for wine growing. The Chieti hills, in particular, where the vineyards are located, enjoy a perfect microclimate for growing Pecorino. Here, sea breezes mitigate summer temperatures, while cool mountain currents keep the climate dry and favourable for a balanced ripening of the grapes. Despite being an ancient variety, Pecorino is now experiencing a new prestige thanks to its good adaptability and the growing attention of local winegrowers, who appreciate its freshness and structure. Once in the winery, the grapes are first subjected to a soft pressing. The must obtained undergoes cryo-maceration to extract intense aromas without altering the wine's freshness. This is followed by temperature-controlled fermentation in steel tanks, which allows the clear must to fully develop the characteristic aromas of Pecorino, preserving its floral and fruity notes. In the glass, Ferzo has a straw-yellow colour with greenish reflections. On the nose, the bouquet is complex, with hints of white flowers, delicate notes of acacia and herbaceous hints of sage. This is followed by aromas of tropical fruit, such as pineapple, which lend an exotic and inviting touch. In the mouth, it stands out for its structure, supported by a pleasant minerality and a long persistence that enhance the wine's freshness. This Pecorino is perfect with seafood cuisine, especially shellfish and raw fish. However, it also goes well with white meats and vegetable dishes.
