There is little to say. When we read the name Amarone della Valpolicella on a wine label, the bar of our expectations is inevitably raised. And in this case, in front of this Montindon Amarone, our expectations are well placed. A wine of great prestige, it is made from the best grapes from the Valpolicella hills, traditionally dried on racks. Then, after racking, it is aged at length in the winery's underground cellars until it reaches the right complexity and richness. Son of Corvina, Rondinella and other indigenous and recommended vines, the company vineyards are located in the hilly area of Sant'Ambrogio, the historical part of Valpolicella. Old plantings with an average age of 20 years but, for some Corvine, can reach up to 35 years of age. A robust, full-bodied and warm wine, this Amarone della Valpolicella is a great traditional wine. Perfect on the table, it enhances the pleasure of roasts and game, but also of meats with a stronger flavour, such as roast lamb or all hard cheeses.

Montindon Valpolicella Ripasso Doc 2019 - Country: Italy - Capacity: 0.75

For those who consider Amarone della Valpolicella a bit "too much", a bit too much, Ripasso always represents the right compromise between power and pleasure. This fine red wine proposed by Montindon, produced with grapes harvested in the hilly area of Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella, is no exception. Based on Corvina, Rondinella, as well as old indigenous vines and recommended varieties, the grapes are destemmed and crushed when they arrive in the cellar. The must obtained, and the pomace, are fermented in special temperature-controlled tanks until the colour and aromas are completely extracted, without pressing. At the end of winter, the Valpolicella Classico thus obtained is then "ripassato", i.e. it is slowly re-fermented on the marc of classic Recioto and Amarone. In this way, the wine takes on greater body and intensity. At the beginning of spring, after racking, the wine is transferred to large wooden barrels for the necessary maturation phase. At the end of this phase, the wine is bottled and left to rest in the cellar for a further period of refinement in the bottle. The result is an interesting wine characterised by a beautiful ruby red colour with garnet highlights. On the nose, the scents of cooked plum and morello cherry stand out, while the palate reveals a perfectly harmonious, full-bodied wine. It is the ideal glass to accompany red meat dishes, game or roasts.

It comes from the vinification of pure Trebbiano di Lugana. An extremely interesting vine that grows well thanks to the particular microclimate that characterises the Lake Garda area. In this case, the vineyards of the Montindon company are located south of the lake and have an average age of over 30 years. The harvest takes place between the middle and the end of September, with manual selection of the best bunches. In the cellar, after soft pressing, a cold maceration is carried out for a few hours to favour varietal typicality and the extraction of aromas. Fermentation at a controlled temperature and a period in stainless steel complete the process. The result is a wine characterised by a beautiful straw yellow colour, with aromas of exotic fruit, apricots and nectarines. In the mouth, however, it is appreciated for its fullness and perfect harmony. A traditional white wine, it is ideal with fish-based first courses. For lovers of regional dishes, it also goes well with the classic grilled eel.
