La Malvagia, in name but certainly not to the palate. We are talking about an elegant Malvasia Emilia IGT, offered here by Il Poggiarello. The aromatic Malvasia di Candia, which in this case is made pure, is a white grape variety, probably originating in Greece. Widespread above all in Oltrepò Pavese and Emilia Romagna, it finds a simply ideal habitat in the hills of Piacenza, capable of developing those fine, typical aromas that its many enthusiasts love so much. In this case, the aromatic framework of the starting grapes is respected in the best possible way, thanks to a particularly careful processing in the cellar that begins with a phase of cryo-maceration on the skin for about 48 hours. This is followed by the classic fermentation phase, in this case with selected yeasts, and an ageing phase in stainless steel which lasts until the following spring. The wine is then blended and bottled. Luminous straw yellow, with golden highlights, this aromatic white wine impresses above all with the cleanliness of its varietal aromas. Richly fruity, it has notes that might recall those of the Muscat and that invite you to sip. In the mouth, then, one discovers a wine characterised by a pleasantly harmonious taste and perfectly consistent with what one perceives on the nose. Citrus notes of citron and lime stand out, with a slightly balsamic aftertaste. Excellent as an aperitif, this intense and elegant white wine goes well with slightly spicy dishes. Try it, for example, with Asian dishes.

Ortrugo dei Colli Piacentini DOC, sparkling, twine stopper. What could be more traditional than this great local wine, which is still offered with the classic cork closure, kept in place by a skilfully tied string. A sort of "ante litteram" cage made to resist the moderate internal pressure of the bottle which, especially in the past, otherwise risked "bursting" in the cellar. Nothing serious, of course. But a real crime for those who were waiting for the right occasion to uncork that bottle and celebrate. The process in the cellar begins with a phase of cryo-maceration, which allows all the best aromas and flavours to be extracted. This is followed by the fermentation phase, with selected yeasts, and a slow re-fermentation in autoclave that completes its fragrance, while giving it a delicate petillant taste. Straw-yellow colour tending towards greenish. The nose reveals intense, very fresh aromas, with clear hints of balsamic herbs, such as mint, and fresh flowers. In the mouth it is delicate and characteristic with a pleasant bitterish finish. It is the wine to drink in company. Ideal with hors d'oeuvres, it is also an excellent accompaniment to dry pasta dishes and risottos. For a local pairing, it should certainly be tried with the delicious fried eel.

Sparkling Gutturnio DOC. For many connoisseurs of Emilian wines, this represents the most structured red bubble. In the version proposed here by Il Poggiarello, the base blend is 60% Barbera grapes and 40% Croatina grapes, or Bonarda. Harvest when fully ripe, pressing and maceration at controlled temperature. Then the second fermentation, slow, in autoclave to acquire its delicate petillant and rustic typicality. After bottling, the cork is secured to the neck of the bottle with the traditional string. In the glass it has a beautiful deep ruby red color with great intensity. The nose is a symphony of ripe red fruit, from strawberry to cherry. In the mouth it is fresh and young. Decidedly fruity and well balanced in all its parts. A wine not to be drunk alone but to be shared with the people you love.

Gutturnio Superiore DOC La Barbona is one of those wines that have the defect of creating a sort of addiction. When you try it, with the right accompaniment of Emilian delicacies, you cannot help but be enchanted. 55% Barbera and 45% Bonarda, after the pressing follows a maceration phase of about 2 weeks with daily pumping. Fermentation at controlled temperature and with selected yeasts, then ageing in barriques for a first and second passage for about 14 months. The result is a full-bodied wine, with character, where fruit alternates with more complex notes such as liquorice, chocolate and leather. A beautiful deep and intense ruby red colour. In the mouth it is powerful, but balanced. Good alcoholic thrust and sweet tannins.
