Category: Alcoholic Beverages

Tiefenbrunner's Turmhof Lagrein is a wine that tells a thousand-year-old story. The name 'Turmhof', in fact, evokes the ancient castle that dominates the estate, a place full of charm and history, where time seems to stand still. The vineyards from which Turmhof Lagrein originates extend on sunny slopes, at an altitude of up to 900 metres. Here, Lagrein, a native vine with a strong soul, finds its ideal habitat. The roots of the vines sink into gravelly soils, rich in minerals, which give the wines an extraordinary complexity and depth. Vinification takes place in accordance with ancient traditions, thanks to the use of special cement vats, where the grapes ferment in contact with the skins for a prolonged period. Subsequently, the wine matures in wood, in both small and large barrels, to acquire complexity and harmony. In the glass it has an intense ruby colour with violet hues. The nose reveals a broad and complex bouquet, with notes of ripe red fruit, such as cherries and blackberries, enriched by delicate floral and spicy nuances. In the mouth it is full and enveloping, with silky tannins and a vibrant acidity that balances its structure. The finish is long and persistent, with a return of fruity notes and a pleasant mineral aftertaste. A versatile wine, it lends itself to various occasions. Perfect with traditional South Tyrolean dishes such as speck, dumplings and mature cheeses. It also goes well with grilled or braised red meats, game and blue cheeses.

Tiefenbrunner "merus" Müller Thurgau Alto Adige Doc 2023 - Country: Italy - Capacity: 0.75

Brand: Tiefenbrunner
Category: Alcoholic Beverages

It is called Merus and it is a pure Müller Thurgau proposed by Tiefenbrunner. Merus is a line of wines distinguished by its focus on naturalness and the authentic expression of the grape variety. This is suggested by the Latin term 'merus,' which means 'pure, without addition.' This Müller Thurgau originates in South Tyrol, in the Bassa Atesina, an area characterised by moraine soils rich in limestone gravel. The climate of the area, with large temperature fluctuations between day and night, is ideal for keeping the aromatic notes of the grapes alive and fresh. This Alpine-Mediterranean climate, combined with the composition of the soil, contributes to wines with well-balanced acidity and intense aromas. Müller Thurgau is a white grape variety originating in Germany, obtained from a cross between Riesling and Madeleine Royale. In South Tyrol, this grape variety finds a perfect environment to develop all its aromaticity and freshness, resulting in a delicate but lively wine. In this case, the grapes are harvested by hand and vinified in cement and stainless steel barrels, preserving the freshness and integrity of the aromas. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 20 °C for about ten days, followed by a four-month maturation on fine lees, giving the wine greater complexity and a soft texture, without altering its vivacity and freshness. In the glass, the colour varies from pale greenish to light yellow. Hints of wild herbs, fresh grass and a slight hint of nutmeg emerge on the nose. In the mouth, the acidity is well balanced, giving the wine a lively and dynamic body, with an elegant, enveloping finish. This Müller Thurgau is a wine that wins you over with its balance of freshness and structure. Perfect as an aperitif, it also goes well with light dishes: delicate first courses, freshwater fish and fresh cheeses.

Gewürztraminer is 'the' aromatic white wine grape par excellence, famous for its intense spicy and floral notes. In South Tyrol, it expresses a unique finesse and elegance, thanks to the cool climate and mineral-rich soils. A curiosity about the name: Gewürztraminer derives from the German 'gewürz', meaning 'spice', in reference to the intense aromatic notes typical of this grape variety. A fine example of this is this Turmhof Gewürztraminer signed by Tiefenbrunner. 'Turmhof' is the name of the ancient castle that dominates the estate, a place rich in history and tradition. The grapes here come from selected vineyards on various slopes, reaching heights of up to 900 metres. The soil here is characterised by a great variety of elements: it ranges from gravelly soils rich in limestone to clay soils. The vinification of Turmhof Gewürztraminer makes use of the most modern winemaking technology. The grapes are initially macerated for eight hours to best extract the aromas, then fermented in cement barrels and matured on the fine lees for an extended period. This process preserves the wine's freshness and aromaticity. Brilliant golden yellow in colour, the nose reveals an intense and complex bouquet, with notes of rose, lychee, honey and exotic spices. In the mouth, it is full and enveloping, characterised by a beautiful persistence. The pleasant acidity balances its sweetness. Good already, this Gewürztraminer is a wine that can age for several years, developing more complex and spicy notes. A versatile wine, it pairs well with blue cheeses, spicy fish dishes, Asian cuisine and even fruit desserts.

Pinot Bianco Merus from the Tiefenbrunner winery: the essence of the South Tyrolean terroir. The name 'Merus,' which in Latin means 'pure, without addition,' well reflects the philosophy of this wine line, in which each label expresses the genuine character of the grape variety and the natural elegance of the terroir. It originates in the Bassa Atesina, one of the most vocated areas for white wines in Alto Adige. The vineyards are located in Cortaccia and Magrè, where the soil variety favours the aromatic complexity of Pinot Bianco. In Cortaccia, gravelly soils of morainic origin, characterised by a considerable presence of limestone, prevail, while in Magrè we find more sandy alluvial soils. These soils, combined with the Alpine-Mediterranean climate, allow the grapes to reach optimal ripeness while maintaining good acidity, essential for the freshness of the wine. The grapes are harvested by hand and then vinified in cement and stainless steel containers, preserving the aromaticity and freshness of the wine. Fermentation at a controlled temperature is followed by ageing on the fine lees for four months before bottling. In the glass, Merus Pinot Bianco is a brilliant straw-yellow colour. The nose impresses with delicate floral and fruity aromas, among which apple and nuances of tropical fruit stand out. In the mouth there is a pleasant acidity that gives freshness and vivacity, balanced by mineral notes that give structure and persistence. The finish is harmonious, with a long and satisfyingly clean sensation. Thanks to its acidity and delicacy, Merus Pinot Bianco is ideal with light, fresh dishes. It goes well with asparagus, grilled or steamed fish, and with traditional South Tyrolean dumplings.
