Monica is one of the oldest traditional Sardinian vines. It is cultivated more or less everywhere on the island and, as is often the case with Sardinian vines, it is locally called by different names. Monica di Sardegna, first of all, but also Monica di Spagna, 'which probably gives us an idea of its ancient origins, or even Uva Mora. Argiolas offers this pleasant Iselis, Monica di Sardegna DOC, produced from grapes harvested in its vineyards located in the heart of southern Sardinia. Plants rooted in soils rich in limestone, capable of bringing to maturity concentrated bunches rich in aromas. Carefully vinified and matured for about a year in oak barriques, Iselis appears in the glass with a beautiful ruby red colour. To the nose it is intense and enveloping, with notes of red fruit, morello cherry and plum in clear evidence. Then there are clear hints of vanilla and cinnamon due to the time spent in wood. In the mouth it is pleasantly harmonious and velvety, with very sweet and ripe tannins. Red fruit and spices are in perfect balance, while the finish is long and pleasant. On the table it has no problem finding the right combination. Whether it be a traditional pasta dish with sauce or a tasty fish soup. Also perfect with a simple piece of medium-aged Sardinian pecorino.

When you think of Sardinia, as well as the sea and 'porceddu', you inevitably end up remembering one of the region's many good wines. White or red, Sardinian wines are often the result of the vinification of grapes typical of the region. Varieties that express themselves best in the heart of the Mediterranean, thanks to a happy mix of environmental conditions. Among the typical vines, there is one that most people might not immediately remember. It is Nuragus, which, strangely enough, is still the most widely cultivated vine in Sardinia today, even if recent years have seen a gradual trend towards a reduction in the area under cultivation. Today, Nuragus is mainly found in the provinces of Cagliari and Oristano. A rustic vine that adapts easily to any terrain, it is a very generous grape. Argiolas harvests it in its Vigne Vecchie estate and proposes it in this DOC Nuragus di Cagliari version. Straw yellow in colour, the nose reveals a pleasantly fruity, fragrant and harmonious character. In the mouth it is full, soft and rich. The peculiar characteristic of this vine, however, is the pleasantly bitterish finish, a characteristic that is also found in this S'Elegas by Argiolas. Sea and land hors d'oeuvres, but also first courses of seafood cuisine or second courses of fish are its natural matches. Try it, in particular, with a nice roast sea bass with potatoes.

The Sisini estate of Argiolas covers about 60 hectares in the hills of the municipality of the same name. We are in the south of the region, not far from the headquarters of the winery. Here the vineyards enjoy excellent exposure and grow healthy and strong at an altitude of between 250 and 300 metres above sea level. This mild soil and climate is ideal for the production of quality grapes, from which Argiolas produces important whites and reds. Perdera, Monica di Sardegna DOC, has an intense ruby red colour. On the nose, the winey and intense scents are evident. In the mouth it is round, with a finish that tends almost to sweetness, very typical for the Monica vine. To be served with dishes characterised by an intense flavour, this Perdera can also accompany tasty fish soups or, for those who love really intense flavours, even with the classic lamb stew.

Vermentino di Sardegna DOC. This is enough to imagine that Costamolino is a delicious white wine, perfect for more than one occasion. Argiolas produces it from grapes harvested in the Vigne Vecchie Estate, 40 enchanting hectares in the hills near the town of Selegas. An area particularly suited to the cultivation of vines, here the good altitude and soil characteristics allow the Vermentino grapes to reach perfect ripeness and produce wines of particular value. Vinified and aged in neutral containers with strict temperature control, Costamolino appears in the glass with a beautiful straw-yellow colour with slightly greenish reflections. The nose is intense and delicate at the same time, with a lovely fruity character and a delicate hint of bread crust. In the mouth it is fresh but also dry and well-dried. Pleasantly sapid, it has a pleasant and delicate finish. Perfect with seafood hors d'oeuvres, for lovers of typical local combinations, Costamolino can be paired with the classic fregola with shellfish.

Costera is a classic Cannonau di Sardegna DOC, probably the red wine that most immediately calls to mind Sardinia. Although it is considered an indigenous Sardinian wine, the origins of Cannonau are not known with certainty. It seems, however, that it was already present on Sardinian soil at the time of the Spanish domination, i.e. the period to which, historically, its introduction dates back. Argiolas collects it in its Sisini Estate, about 60 hectares on the hills of the homonymous municipality. Here the Cannonau plants grow sun-kissed at an altitude of between 250 and 300 metres above sea level. An intense wine with character, Costera matures in small oak barrels for a period of 8-10 months. Intense ruby red with garnet hues, the nose is described as intensely vinous, a character that is typical of Cannonau. In the mouth it reveals a full body and a pleasantly round taste. A wine characterised by a perfect balance between all its components, this Costera is the wine that any good Sardinian would uncork to accompany the classic barbecued suckling pig. For lovers of strong sensations, it can also be served with roast lamb or a sliver of Sardinian pecorino, of medium or long maturation.

Thanks to the Argiolas family we have the opportunity to get to know some of Sardinia's rare ancient grape varieties. Thanks to unique wines such as this Nasco di Cagliari DOC, 100% Nasco grape, or Nascu, as it is called inland from Cagliari. Cultivated in Sardinia since time immemorial, Nasco is a vine of great value and rare finesse. Its name may derive from the Latin "Muscus", meaning musk, to underline its unmistakable perfume, especially after several years of refinement. Argiolas produces it following a traditional method. Vinification begins with a cold maceration phase and limited contact with oxygen. This is followed by a phase of refinement on the noble lees for about 60 days while a small fraction of the must ferments and matures on small French oak barrels. Straw yellow colour. The nose reveals an ample and harmonious bouquet, with notes of yellow flowers, tropical fruit and, indeed, slight musky notes. On the palate, however, Iselis reveals itself to be a soft and enveloping wine, characterised by a particularly long and pleasant finish. A rare and precious wine, it goes well with fish starters. For lovers of Sardinian cuisine, try it with the classic culurgiones di patate alla menta or, for a more traditional combination, with a simple risotto alla marinara.

The most classic of Sardinian wines. A very fresh Vermentino di Sardegna DOC, proposed here by one of the island's symbolic wineries, Argiolas. We are talking about Merì, a fresh and perfumed white wine that comes from a super careful processing of the best Vermentino grapes, harvested in the winery's vineyards. Plants that grow on richly calcareous soils, producing bunches concentrated in terms of aromas and fragrances and rich in terms of acidity and minerality. To make the most of the initial fruit, all the initial operations, from soft pressing to natural decanting at controlled temperatures, are carried out in an oxygen-free environment. In reduction, as the technicians say. Fermentation, on the other hand, always takes place in a controlled environment and continues for about 15-20 days. The result is a white wine characterised by its classic pale straw yellow colour, with evident greenish inflections. The nose is intense, with primary notes, typical of the vine, of citrus and fresh fruit. In the mouth, however, one discovers with pleasure a wine characterised by a lively, fresh and savoury taste. A well-balanced and fine white wine, it is simply perfect as an aperitif, perhaps served with a plate of seafood and shellfish. On the table it goes well with sushi and sashimi but also with delicate white meat dishes. Even a simple grilled chicken is immediately tastier with a glass of this wine.

Argiolas "korem" Bovale Isola Nuraghi Igt 2021 - Country: Italy - Capacity: 0.75
Svinando.co.uk
Shipping: 6.9 GBP

Brand: Argiolas
Category: Alcoholic Beverages

This Korem perfectly reflects the idea that every good enthusiast has of Sardinian reds. Wines of great intensity and concentration, perfect to accompany richly flavoured dishes. Isola dei Nuraghi IGT, this Korem is offered by Argiolas, a company that certainly needs no introduction. They produce it from grapes harvested on the Sa Tanca estate. Bunches of Bovale sardo, Carignano and Cannonau. Bovale, in particular, is a grape variety native to the Iberian peninsula, which arrived in Sardinia around 1300. The resulting wine is characterised by its richness in extract, alcohol and polyphenolic complexity. Sometimes still grown using the traditional Sardinian sapling system, it also lends itself well to slight over-ripening on the vine, to increase the concentration of aromas and sugar in the grapes. After the harvest, Argiolas carefully vinifies the three varieties, starting with a long maceration phase that can last up to two weeks. After fermentation, the wine is placed in vitrified cement vats where malolactic fermentation takes place. Finally, the wine is put into barriques, where it matures for about a year, before bottling and a further 6 months of ageing in glass. The result is a wine characterised by an intense red colour. The nose reveals intense and persistent aromas. In the mouth, however, it is above all velvety, warm and round. Well-balanced and harmonious, on the table it easily (and satisfactorily) accompanies savoury meat dishes. First courses with meat sauce, suckling pig on the spit and more generally grilled red meat. But also roast lamb, and mature Sardinian pecorino cheese.

Argiolas "turriga" Isola Dei Nuraghi Igt 2020 - Country: Italy - Capacity: 0.75
Svinando.co.uk
Shipping: 6.9 GBP

Brand: Argiolas
Category: Alcoholic Beverages

Among the most representative wines of the fine Sardinian winery, Turriga is described as 'Red conceived from local vines, Turriga narrates the memory of the island in an international language'. We read on the winery's website: 'it was 1988 when, after a long period of research, the first harvest delivered a balanced blend of Sardinian vines rooted for centuries in the limestone soils of the hills and the sands of the coast, kissed by the sun and caressed by the wind, swollen by the sea'. Turriga brings together the best grapes of Cannonau, which offers structure and personality, Bovale, generous and fruity, Carignano, repository of elegance, fullness and roundness, and Malvasia Nera, which offers the ability to ripen. In its own innovative way, Turriga 'cleared Sardinian red wine through the eyes of the world'. After a long and careful vinification process, the wine matures slowly in the cellar for 18-24 months in new French oak barriques. Then, after bottling, the wine matures for about a year in the bottle. In the glass, this wine has a beautiful intense red colour, with clear aromas of well-ripened red fruit and a rich, complex bouquet. In the mouth it certainly does not disappoint expectations. In fact, it reveals a wine of great structure and balance. A fine and persistent red, characterised by a velvety envelopment. On the table it is capable of accompanying dishes of great complexity and richness. Excellent, for example, with the classic wild boar stew, but also with game and spicy red meats. For those with a passion for territorial pairings, a well-aged Sardinian Pecorino is required here.

Brand: Argiolas
EAN: 8032986309732

A quality Brut sparkling wine, Tagliamare di Argiolas comes from a pure processing of Nuragus grapes. This ancient, typical Sardinian vine is today widespread above all in the provinces of Cagliari and Oristano. A rustic grape, easily adaptable to any terrain, it has the advantage of being very generous. Argiolas harvests it in the Trexenta area, in the south of the island. After vinification, the wine rests on the lees at a low temperature until spring. Then the base wine is slowly re-fermented in autoclave for 40/50 days, with a further rest on the lees for about a month. Straw yellow colour with greenish reflections and fine perlage, the nose reveals elegant notes of white flowers, nectarine, pear and citrus fruits that blend with the delicate scents of our Mediterranean herbs. In the mouth it is fresh, full and savoury. Elegant and persistent, there is a perfect correspondence with what is perceived on the nose. Excellent as an aperitif, it goes well with delicate fish dishes. Perfect with oysters and seafood starters.

"is Argiolas" Vermentino Di Sardegna Doc 2023 - Country: Italy - Capacity: 0.75
Svinando.co.uk
Brand: Argiolas
Category: Alcoholic Beverages

Argiolas is one of the finest names in Sardinian viticulture, capable for over 100 years of producing vintage after vintage of wines that stand out for their finesse and great pleasantness. Like this Vermentino di Sardegna DOC Is Argiolas, made from pure Vermentino grapes, harvested strictly by hand in the Tenuta Vigne Vecchie vineyards. The careful selection of the grapes in the countryside is a fundamental prerequisite to bring only the best bunches to the winery, those that are then treated delicately to extract the must flower and begin the slow transformation process. Fermentation involves the use of only indigenous yeasts, which is followed by the wine resting on its fine lees for about a week. A small fraction of the must ferments and matures on small French oak barrels, giving the wine greater complexity and beautiful depth. Pale straw yellow with greenish hues, the nose of this Vermentino reveals an intense aroma of fresh fruit and flowers, to which are added notes of vanilla and sweet spices, due in part to the moderate contact with wood. In the mouth, however, it reveals a pleasantly lively and fresh wine, endowed with a natural sapidity and a perfect balance between all its components. It is the Vermentino we all imagine when, sitting a few metres from the sea, we are preparing to end a day's holiday in style. Excellent with fish starters and risottos. For those who love territorial pairings, however, this white wine also goes well with classic mint-flavoured potato culurgiones and medium-aged pecorino cheese.
